Cavapoo VS Cavapoochon
So now on your puppy search you may have stumbled across the “Cavapoochon”. Wait a minute you say- What is that subtle change of breed blend name? Why does Bluebell Pup raise Cavapoochons and not the Cavapoo? The Cavapoo is widely known. What makes the Cavapoochon worth knowing? And what makes the Bluebell Cavapoochon pup contagious…ask our Bluebell families and their friends. :)
1st generation Cavapoo- 1/2 Poodle, 1/2 King Charles Cavalier
1st generation Cavapoochon - 1/2 Poodle, 1/4 King Charles Cavalier, 1/4 Bichon Frise
Our Bluebell Cavapoochons
We have added the 1/4 Bichon Frise while taking away a 1/4 of the King Charles Cavalier.
PUPPY COAT- With that change, we have found our puppies to be more hypoallergenic than the Cavapoo. Our Cavapoochon coats will vary between wavy and curly. But the Bichon Frise quarter brings in the hypoallergenic coat they are known for. Their white markings are more subtle generally due to the genetics. White markings can come through though. But know that if the poodle who brought on the white markings has parti and white parents - the puppies will most likely lighten to white. I have found this quite difficult to overcome while raising our first generation Cavapoochons. We adore white markings, but do our best to avoid red puppies becoming white as they age. Will all Cavapoo or Cavapoochon puppies that have poodle and genetics experience some lightening? Absolutely. The Bichon in the Cavapoochon is also white, keep that in mind.
PERSONALITY- The quarter Bichon Frise in our Cavapoochons brings in a lovely personable quality to our puppies. The Bichon Frise is almost human…. out of every dog I have ever owned, I will forever say that my Bichon Frise was 99% human. I could almost hear her talking as she looked at me. She was ever curious and learning and playful. By bringing in the Bichon Frise, we are able to add another layer to our Bluebell companions.
SIZING- Our Cavapoochons have two breeds that favor the mid size range 12-18+lbs range- the Bichon Frise and the King Charles Cavalier. We keep our Toy Poodle lines around 6-9lbs - that being said, Our Benning has 6lbs parents and grew to 9lbs! Genetics is a funny thing. And each puppy is unique in their own right. We generally will have sizing in a litter that favors 6-20+lbs. Do not worry, Momma Liz has been doing this for a while, so with charting as each puppy grows we can have an estimate of where their sizing should go.
CONFIRMATION- Many puppy parents are a little taken aback from this word that is common in the dog world. It is simply a term that measures how a dog is conforming to the standard for their breed. Our Cavapoochons can vary as they have three genetics pulling to have a say. Some will very obviously take after the Cavalier in face, other the poodle eyes. Confirmation is also dependent on the cavachon mother’s features. Here are a few grown up Bluebell Cavapoochons:
